The material or rather the grain type of the sanding paper depends on the purpose for which you want to use it. Aluminium oxide grain is ideal for sanding wood, while silicon carbide is more suitable for stone, granite or concrete. Semi-friable aluminium oxide is used mainly for the sanding of paint, varnish or plastic. A zirconium aluminium oxide abrasive will be the best choice for sanding metal.

Random orbital sanders – the perfect all-rounder
Just like delta sanders, random orbital sanders are hand-held. They are mostly used on small areas and where larger machines cannot reach. A random orbital sander combines a circular motion with an oscillation movement – which prevents unwanted scuff marks and ensures smooth grinding results. That is why this tool is also suitable for precision grinding and polishing. A random orbital sander can handle plane as well as convex areas without any problem. The circular driving disc is, however, not ideal for corners and angles.
